I find it interesting that while Luke follows a similar "plotline" with Mark where the story of the paralytic is introduced, Matthew's Gospel interposes a few differences: namely the story of the Centurion's servant, the allusion to Isa. and the outright recognition by the demoniac "Son of God." From one point of view these key differences ameliorate any argument (for Matthew) over who Jesus is and what he is doing in the story of the paralytic.
